I was born and raised in godzone Palmy Nth.  After 6 years studying at Massey University for a BA and then MA (A Palaeoenvironmental study of Volcanic Craters!) and a brief interlude selling Bose stereos I left for the UK.  That was in 1994 BI, (Before Internet) and I was going to get a pub job and stay for 6 months max.

8 years later I was still in London working as a Senior Developer at Allen & Overy, one of the top law firms in Europe and technical lead in a firmwide US$40 million IT project.  Proving that you can take the boy out of Palmy but you can't take the Palmy out of the boy (maybe).

During my prolonged stay in London, I had a range of contracts with investment banks. I hated the work but the pay allowed me to travel around Europe and East Asia.  To make the frustrating bank clerk jobs more interesting, I started to automate Excel spreadsheets using Visual Basic for Applications.  My automated spreadsheets made the users lives easier and became really popular, in some cases even changing the way people work.  That's why I decided to become a software developer, because I want to improve the way people do things.

Over the next few years I extended my programming skills to include Intranet/Internet based applications using Microsoft .Net technologies, XML and XSLT, transact SQL and database design.  I have passed 7 microsoft exams and hold MCSD qualification (Microsoft Certified Solution Developer) in .Net technologies.  I also have experience in architectural design and project management.  I am not a propellerhead.

I returned from London with my partner and young son at the end of '06 and now work as a freelance developer in Newtown, Wellington.

"Good software makes complicated things simple, it should not be confusing and time wasting.  Hey it ain't Rocket Salad folks."
