Studio Madfish was opened in November of 2001 in Denver, Colorado. When we began, our name was 10 Inch Trout Web Design, but after a brand reposition, my cohorts and I felt that we needed to rename the company to something more edgy and more viable for the long haul. Because of my love for fishing and the color orange, we came up with Studio Madfish, a clean, concise name that represents our love of the web as well as why we are "mad" about design theories!
My love for computers started at en early age. My Grandma and Grandpa bought me a Tandy Computer for Christmas one year and my DOS days began. All through high school and college I taught myself the "ins and outs" of the computer (as well as taught a few others too!) while classes and my professional career helped my progression into the Windows and Apple age!
After a big move from San Diego to Denver, I completed my BS in Marketing and gained my CIW certification (Certified Internet Webmaster). I then landed a job at a credit union (US$380 million) where I honed my skills in web design, project management and IT security. While working there for 8 years, I created and implemented the company's first Intranet (still in use today), implemented and managed their online banking, bill pay and eStatement systems (over 50,000 users) and created and launched their corporate website. The work was great and the lessons in life that I learned are still with me today.
Also during this time, I had various friends and family members call and ask if I would build them or their company a website. After doing a bit of homework, I found that the prices being charged for my line of work were absolutely out of control. And, once you contracted with a company, the service you received was shocking. So, after a bit of head scratching, some thumb twiddling and quite frankly, a lot of beer consumption (a lot of beers), I decided to venture off into the small business world and start a web and graphic design company.
A little over 6 years later and a big change in scenery, we have over 55 clients in 4 countries! My little dream of creating a company focused on the client has come full circle and I am proud to say Studio Madfish is mine.
